Mobile Optimised Websites

The future is mobile, but is your website?

Make your website mobile friendly

Mobile internet is a fast growing market, in the last 18 months alone the percentage of UK mobile web traffic has risen by a huge 630% and within the next 3 years mobile Internet usage is expected to overtake desktop usage.

The dramatic increase of mobile web users is down to the development of smart phones. Technological advances, including 3G on phones, allows mobile web users faster, "on the go" Internet access.

Research also suggests that 60% of mobile users will not return to your mobile site if they have trouble accessing it on their first visit.

We have already started optimising some of SCK's clients websites to be mobile friendly. These include Invest in South lakeland and Michael C.L. Hodgson in Kendal.

How we do it

To optimise a website for mobile devices, we utilse a modern CSS3 method known as a media query.

A media query tag is placed in the header of a webpage, this tag allows us to set an alternate style sheet to be used on various screen resolutions. We then take the existing style sheet and adjust the way the website is displayed on the device. This generally involves making the site and all internal structural items narrower, the content text bigger and compressing the sites navigation into an expandable container.
